Buy A Star
By Eddie Corbano
I have to admit I was initially skeptical when I heard about Star Registry and the ability to buy a star. In fact, I already had previous knowledge that the scientific community does not recognized any star names other than those which they name themselves – which are nothing but long strings of number.
However, I decided to investigate the matter because I was interested in the idea.
I looked at a lot of different companies that offered the opportunity to “buy a star”. Unfortunately, many of them try to hide the fact that you’re really not buying the star at all, but more or less making a symbolic gesture to someone else.
This rubbed me the wrong way, because I do not like to do business with people who try to deceive me. However, what I like about Star Registry is that they were right up front with the idea behind buying a star.
In fact, it is a pretty good idea. There is sentiment behind it. Why you do not really get ownership of the star, what you do receive when buying a star is a star naming kit. This is a very beautiful gift – it comes with a certificate printed on parchment paper, the date the star was dedicated and the star coordinates.
Additionally, you get a personalized 12 inch by 16 inch sky chart which will contain the star’s name, the star’s date, and the location of your star circle in red. Furthermore, a book about astronomy will be included as well as a letter of congratulations.
I have to admit that the more I looked into this, the more intrigued I was about dedicating a star to someone else. The star kit was very professional looking, and I could tell that many people would be appreciative to receive such a gift. Additionally, you don’t have to pay an arm and leg to purchase one either – the star naming kits started as low as $54.
So I decided to jump in and purchase one for a friend I knew who was moving away soon. I bought a star for them as a going away present to remember me by.
I was very pleased with my purchase, because my friend told me that it was one of the best presents he had received in long time.
It is not so much buying a star that is important, but the thought behind it.
Me for one, I’m very happy with my purchase.
